Video Auditions open for Kiwanis Club Talent Showcase

This year, the Kiwanis Club of Kanata-Stittsville is once again going to run their annual live Kids for Kids (K4K) Talent Showcase. This is not a Talent Contest, rather, the Kids donate their talent and time to raise funds to help other children in their community who are in need or at risk. Some of the funds raised go towards the Kiwanis Computers for Kids Project. The showcase is open to children ages 8 through 18 and this year will take place on October 21st at the Stittsville United Pentecostal Church Auditorium. Even though the school year has almost ended, they would like to invite students to submit Video Auditions between now and September 16th, 2022!

Please refer to the poster and request letter for more information.

Online Summer Programs

The OCSB has collaborated with Start2Finish to offer an online, self-directed summer program for our elementary students.

Start2Finish is a well-respected non-profit Canadian organization that is committed to promoting the health and wellness of children through literacy and fitness education. Start2Finish runs programs in schools across the country with excellent results, and they currently partner with a few OCSB schools. Their programs are based on best practices and current research.

Start2Finish offers an 8-week online summer program for students in grades 1-6. Each week, the children registered for the program receive an email that contains links to fun, educational videos, challenges and activities. Weekly activities are based on a theme, for example, Around the World, Nature Week, Zootopia etc. Children may access the Start2Finish weekly online activities at their convenience. Start2Finish will send out reminders to participants as well as shout-outs as activities are completed.

The OCSB has partnered with Start2Finish to provide summer programming to 4800 elementary school students. Participating students will be entered in weekly draws and will also be eligible for a prize at the end of the summer if they complete all 8 sets of challenges and activities. The response to this program from children who participated last summer was very positive.
